I HIT 100 MILES!!! THE 100 MILE MARK!!!

I only needed to run 7 today but I decided to do 8 because I didn't run for the past 2 days.

4 miles!! It's kind of amazing how my attitude changes once I just force myself on the treadmill. This morning was also real hard to get up. For one..I knew it was going to be a rainy/snowy dreary day, we also went to bed late again last night (we were out to hear a wedding band!) and this is my 5th day in a row running and I'm tiiiired! I forced myself out of bed when I said to myself "well...you can take today off...but that means you have to run Saturday" And that was enough for me because I do NOT want to work out on Saturday. I want to sleep in and enjoy a normal day free of class for once! My whole commute into the city I kept saying to myself "welll maybe I'll just cross train today and do a spin video instead. Buut the prospect of hitting 100 miles this week has me excited, plus I wanted to watch Today on NBC so I said "well just try running and see how you feel" 4 miles later...I guess I was feeling pretty good. However, I'm getting a blister on my right big toe....this is new to me..and uncomfortable. I did interval running 2 minutes at 7.8mph and then walked for 1 minute at 4.5mph.

I hate what I just ate for breakfast. I really needed to eat up a Stonyfield Farm yogurt that I've had for awhile and was like "whelp....let's just eat it for breakfast" I remember my mom mentioning awhile back that she loved Stonyfield Farm yogurt but hated how much sugar is in them. I noticed this particular one had 35 grams of sugar. That seemed rather high..but I really don't know what the daily recommended sugar intake is. I looked it up and the general recommendation is 40 grams per day!! If you are on a 1600 calorie diet...the sugar intake should be 22 grams per day!! I've already consumed my sugar for the day!!  Now I  feel all gross and ridiculous for eating that breakfast. Sooo I'm going to be very careful about what I eat today and I'm not going to snack tonight.

I am going to try my hand at counting calories again...starting off with the 1600 calories and 22 grams of sugar per day plan on days I work out..and 1200-1400 per day on days I don't. I need to start holding myself accountable for my food intake as it's gotten out of control. If I know I have to post it up here where someone could read it..then maybe it'll stop me from eating so many damn oreos!

 I calculated how many calories I need to eat each week in order to lose 10 pounds in 3 months.

I was talking to my trusty gym friend and fellow runner, Melissa, yesterday about the awful run I had on Sunday. She brought up a good point...one in which I don't know why I didn't think about sooner. I kept saying my run was difficult because I waited too late in the afternoon and had already eaten breakfast..but it probably actually had to do with the copious amounts of food I ate on Saturday night out at dinner with friends..Not to mention the 3 glasses of wine I had. UH DUH!! That certainly was not the smartest thing I did. Sooo even though I have bar plans with friends this Saturday night...I will be drinking seltzer water because I am NOT slugging through a 7 mile run again this Sunday.

I really didn't think I'd be able to run today. Chris and I stayed up an hour later than usual last night...I really wanted to see Rachel Flatt perform in ice skating..why do they have ice skating on sooo late??? Isn't that a main event? it should be Prime TIME people..PRIME TIME! Anyway...I contemplated spinning as my cross training today instead of running. Buuuut I thought I'd at least try running for 2 reasons. 1) There's only 3 days left of Today show Olympic coverage and I just love watching it. Meredith, Matt, Al and..ugh I guess sometimes Ann (she's so annoying) have been getting me through my runs lately because I LOVE hearing about Canada and all the Olympic coverage.  And..I feel like I'm starting to notice a change in the running I'm doing. My legs feel stronger. I feel like I'm starting to get my shape back...as in...I think I'm finally getting toned up again like I was last year training for the race..but then subsequently lost. Soo that's keeping me motivated.

tomorrow I'm running an extra .25 just so I can get rid of this stupid .75 at the end of my total mileage. I actually technically ran 4.25 miles today but that was because I stopped so many times while I was actually running with the treadmill still going..I figured I had to make up the deficit w/ an extra .25. I'm so close to 100 miles!! And I'll def. hit that by the end of the month. That means I'm averaging 50 miles a month, which sounds pretty good to me!

I had the WORST side sticker during the first 3, count 'em THREE, miles today. I was so freaking pissed off but come hell or highwater I was doing these six miles even if it killed me..so I just really realllyy concentrated on my breathing and it finally went away. However, I really kept a slow steady pace for this run...so I didn't do anything fancy with testing my speed...but it was nice. I often really like these weekend runs in the winter because I get to catch up on my BRAVO TV...I should have gone in the morning because that's when the Housewives of Orange County is on and that's my Fav. Bravo show. BUT I was perfectly content with an hour of Millionaire Matchmaker yesterday, so I can't complain. Anyway..Chris and I slept until 11am because we had a fun romp in the city with Mal, Mandy and Billy Saturday night and what fun it was!!

3 excuses reasons I didn't run today:

1. I'm really congested and want to make sure it doesn't turn into a bad cold
2. My left ankle is still hurting me.
3. I work until 8:00 tonight and can't sleep in tomorrow because of class.

So now I'm 3 days behind and simply cannot run tomorrow..sigh, I'll catch up eventually.

only did two miles before my TBC class. My ankle is really hurting me all of a sudden from skiing! Ugh..I'm just not feeling running this week, which makes me sad. In other news, I've become friends with Carolyn, my Tuesday morning TBC teacher! I'm also loooving watching the Olympics lately and watching it on the Today show in the morning, so that's been getting me through.

so I've totally been improvising with my established running schedule and kind of changing days here and there etc. So I actually just sat down and figured out how on track I am with all of this. AND i'm only TWO DAYS behind!!! I just have to catch up this weekend and do my 6 mile run I was supposed to do last week this Sunday and squeeze in two extra 3.5 mile runs sometime in the next 2 weeks and I'll be completely up to date with all the scheduled runs I'm supposed to do. This is great! I do hope my 6 miles on Sunday is easy breezy!

I've been a TOTAL slacker with updating!!! didn't do my 6 miles this past weekend...a ski trip to New Hampshire kind of threw me off my running course..but at least I was still getting a work out!! My legs and throat were still sore yesterday..so I'm finally back at it today. I tried to do a few .25 laps at 7.6 to 7.8 mph to increase my speed. Then cooled down for about .25 miles between 6.3 and 6.5.

Are you running or walking the More/Fitness Half-Marathon?
I will be running the Half-Marathon

Why did you decide to participate in the race?
I did this race last April and really loved it. This year, I have convinced one of my best friends (met her when I was 4 years old!) to run it with me. I decided to run this race on a bit of a whim last year in an effort to keep up with my fitness and weight loss goals. Now..I finally consider myself a "runner" and am looking forward to beating last year's race time. 2:11

Is this your first race? If not, how many have you participated in?
This will be the 3rd time I run a half-marathon. I did the More/Fitness race last April, and the Queens Half Marathon in September. The Queen's race I did not train for well enough and was experiencing a lot of knee pain that day. I was very discouraged after that race but that has given me much more determination to be better prepared physically and mentally this time around.

Are you running with a partner or a team?
One of my best friends will be running with me...but we have no discussed whether or not we will run together the whole time...we will most likely be keeping our own pace throughout the race.

How have your friends, family and coworkers reacted to the news that you're participating in the More/Fitness Half Marathon?
Many people are impressed and surprised, especially since I was the kid in elementary school who would walk the mile in gym class, or try running it but always came in last. Yep, I was that kid..so this is personal vindication for me.

Was there a specific motivating factor behind your decision to participate in this year's race? Have you overcome any special obstacles/challenges to get here?
My biggest determination throughout my training is the fact that I am a bridesmaid in one of my best friend's wedding this coming May and I have my own wedding next May. I want to be my healthiest, and most confident on these two days and running makes me feel both healthy and confident. It's the best thing I can do for myself and I already feel much better than I ever have before.

Do you have any training tips or advice for other women who are running the race or who would like to start training?
A Half-Marathon is not that hard...it sounds hard..but in just 12 weeks someone who has never run more than 1 or 2 miles at a time..can easily train for a 13.1 mile race! It's not about how fast you finish...it's just about finishing. That's truly all that matters. I also recommend downloading running podcasts...they're great for running outside.

What’s your goal for this race?
I ran the half marathon in 2:11 last Spring...I'd like to do it in 2 hours or less this year. I think I am at a better place in my running earlier on this year than I was last year and my head is more in the game this time around...so I'm very confident I can break that.
4.5 miles today. The cable was out at the gym which made me ANGRY. BUT I was forced to listen to my ipod which has some running podcasts from Fitness Magazine so I thought I'd try one on interval training. At first...it seemed really easy. The warm up was at a slower pace than usual and I was having trouble walking at 4.7 mph for the cool downs. But, by the end, he had me sprinting for 30 second or 60 second intervals at 7.8mph which is much faster than I've sprinted before. Usually..when I do intervals....I sprint between 7.2 and sometimes 7.5. So this podcast was really great because today I learned that I can and should sprint at 7.8 mph and running at that speed is 90% of my capacity, which really gets the heart rate up and going. It was good for me...and even though the beginning was easy, I think this will be a challenging run when I do it outside because I know that I have trouble keeping up my pace outside. I'm so excited for it to get warm enough for me to continue training outside. It's been so long and I'm anxious to see how/if I feel any different this year running outside because I feel more in shape this time around (even though I'm 5 pounds heavier, which will severely add time to my overall run) :(

NEW SHOES DAY!

Running in new shoes is like running on clouds!!!!! Ahhh i had suuuch a good run in my brand new shoes from mommy and daddy today. I was supposed to run 5 miles...I felt like I could have gone 6 or 7 buuuut I promised Chris I would be home by 12:30 so I stopped running at 5.25 and walked another .25 miles to warm down.
